Sony changed the way we listened to music with the original Walkman—and now hopes to change the way we view cell phones—with the ultra slim SonyEricsson Walkman W880i. This music phone manages to balance high style and high technology and receives the “TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award.”
The Walkman has all of the standard MP3 player features like the ability to sort music by album and artist and can create custom tracks. However, the feature that stands out is the TrackID. This innovative function allows you to record just a few seconds of any song, and instantly retrieve the track, artist and album information.
This Sony Ericsson has the basic phone features but not many additional features you may find in a business-oriented phone. The Walkman has a speakerphone and basic messaging functions.
The Internet capabilities are also basic—allowing you to access WAP Webpages, read your email and use the phone as a tethered modem. This music phone lacks the ability to view full HTML pages and connect via Wi-Fi.
Overall, the Sony Ericsson Walkman W880i is featureful, but not overbearing. It has the tools that make your life easier like a calendar, alarm clock and two-megapixel camera. We are impressed Sony fit big features in a sleek, streamlined package.
Most impressive about the W880i’s tech specs is the super long battery life. It can be on standby for 17 days before it needs a recharge and will endure up to 6.5 hours of use. Other standout features include a memory expansion slot, the phone comes with a 1 GB Memory Stick Micro, and a simple interface that looks more like a standard cell phone than a smartphone.
Combine the glossy 262,144 color screen, stainless steel casing and less-is-more inspired design and you get an eyecatcher. The Walkman became a TopTen favorite based on looks alone.
Sony Ericsson has combined just the right mixture of style, practicality and technology to create a phone that will keep you in touch, informed and rock’n out to your favorite tunes.
